David concentrates his practice in the areas of Real Estate, Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, and Business/Contract law. He has practiced law in Surry County and surrounding counties for more than 32 years.
David graduated from Brigham Young University in 1986 with a degree in Political Science. Following his graduation he attended law school at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri graduating in 1990.
Following law school, David joined the law firm of his father, V. Talmage Hiatt, in 1990, and they practiced together for 10 years until his father retired. David and Richard Fawcett formed Hiatt & Fawcett, PLLC prior to Richard's retirement at the end of 2000 and David practiced as a solo practitioner for 20+ years.
David has been an active member of his church, serving in many lay leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has also been active in the community, serving on the Board of Directors of Millennium Charter Academy from its inception and for more than 20 years. He also served on the Board of Greater Mount Airy Area Habitat for Humanity for a number of years. David was a scoutmaster and held other troop positions with Boy Scouts of America, and he coached little league baseball and basketball for his children. David enjoys spending time with his family whenever possible, especially his 5 grandchildren, with more on the way. He enjoys playing golf with family and friends and working in the yard.
David served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Oakland Mission and Venezuela Caracas Mission from 1982-84. David and his wife, Maria, were recently called to serve as full-time Mission Leaders for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Peru Trujillo North Mission for a 3 year period beginning July 1, 2022.
